Cancer Crusader Bags Donated
James E. Cary Cancer Center recently received a generous donation of 37 Cancer Crusader Bags from Clare Zanger to distribute to cancer patients. Clare wanted to do something in memory of her grandma, Linda Anderson, who fought breast cancer and eventually passed away. In September, she decided to create a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As a stylist for Stella & Dot, her side business, she took orders for the “Poufs” she sells and donated her commissions plus any unused funds towards items to go in the Cancer Crusader bags. The bags were filled with a variety of items, including: hand sanitizer, mints, lip balm, hand wipes, herbal teas, hand lotion, tissues, vitamins and breast cancer awareness socks. James E. Cary Cancer Center staff would like to thank Clare for the donation and we know that our patients will appreciate them also.

Hannibal Regional Receives Healthgrades 2016 Outstanding Patient Experience Award
Hannibal Regional is pleased to announce that it has received the Healthgrades 2016 Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. Hannibal Regional was identified as providing outstanding performance in the delivery of a positive experience for patients during their hospital stay, according to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

Healthgrades evaluated 3,858 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from April 2014 – March 2015 in order to identify hospital performance in this area.

“At Hannibal Regional our team is focused on providing personalized guidance to help our patients on their path to better,” says Todd Ahrens, Hannibal Regional Healthcare System President/CEO. “We have a team of dedicated professionals who are committed to delivering patient-centered care that is efficient, safe and effective which is continuing to drive exceptional outcomes.”

Healthgrades evaluated performance by applying a scoring methodology to 10 patient experience measures, using data collected from a 32-question patient experience survey of the hospital’s own patients. The survey questions focus on patients’ perspectives of their care in the hospital. Question topics range from cleanliness and noise levels in patient rooms to factors such as pain management and responsiveness to patients’ needs. The measures also include whether a patient would recommend the hospital to friends or family.

In order to be recognized by Healthgrades, hospitals must meet eligibility requirements for consideration, which in addition to the number of survey responses, includes clinical performance thresholds. Nationally, 2,965 hospitals met those requirements with 448 hospitals outperforming their peers, based on their patients’ responses in order to achieve this distinction. Hannibal Regional’s performance places them among the top 15% in the nation.

“Consumers are increasingly using patient experience and satisfaction as a measure to both evaluate hospitals and to select where they want to obtain care,” said Evan Marks, Chief Strategy Officer, Healthgrades. “We commend those hospitals that have achieved the Healthgrades 2016 Outstanding Patient Experience Award for delivering superior patient care experiences during their hospital stay.” For more information about Healthgrades, to download a full copy of the report or to get information about hospital and physician quality, visit: www.Healthgrades.com/quality today.
